2/17/09 UPDATE:
This video aired on Lynchburg news last night.
2/16/09 UPDATE: I just found this news article on the Sweet Briar College website. No new information. Campus Community Prays for Colleague’s Safe Return.

I’ve read on fellow SBC alumnae Washington Bella’s site that reports are going around the college campus that Eleanor Salotto may have committed suicide. I will try to find a source with more information throughout the day.
If this is true, please keep Eleanor and her family in your thoughts.
Like I mentioned before, Eleanor Salotto is one of the best professors I ever had, and she is someone who changed the way I analyze film and literature. Words cannot express how much I respect and love Eleanor (which is hilarious considering she taught English). Eleanor Salotto is an amazing woman and I hope any students who had the pleasure to learn from her keep her in their thoughts.

Rumors are just that, rumors. Hopefully Ms. Salotto will show up safe and sound. I like to be optimistic.
I do not know Eleanor Salotto. I would like to know if she owns a black tapperd coat, (may be wool), black high top boots, and a white or cream colored knit stocking hat. On Wednesday February 17th at around 8:00 AM I saw a lady crossing Commerce Street, just past the intersection of 13th Street and Commerce Street. The lady I saw wearing the mentioned apparel resembled Eleanor Salatto.
I looked right at her and she seemed startled at first and then she smiled. I also should mention that the lady had bags under her eyes.
I have been reluctant to say anything because I didn’t want give false hope. Like I said, I don’t know her and and I could be wrong. However, if she owns the type of clothing that I mentioned it is possible that it was her. I too hope that Ms. Salotto will show up safe and sound.
Angela,
I’m not really sure if she does own those clothing, although it does sound like something she would wear. Thank you for posting, hopefully some other people might come out with other possible sightings.
I’m the sister of Kelly Catalano. She went missing on January 15 and I would be interested in talking to Elenor’s friends and family to see if there is any connection between the to disapearances.
Hoping to hear form anyone who Knows Elenor.

By now you probably know that Eleanor’s body was discovered in the James River yesterday. A very sad day for all of us who knew her. May she rest in peace and her family finally have closure.
Here is the related newspaper article. Cut and paste this link.

Thank you for the update Arlene. It’s been a long month, but I think we can all find some comfort knowing that her body was discovered and her family can being the mourning process.
great advice. I’m going to post a link of this podcast on my blackboard website for my students. Everything you said works for discussion boards too. Thanks !
