Our newest East Coast contributor, Brooke, is living the life. She has a fun media job and a city of millions (of singles) as her playground. Recently Time Out New York featured her in their newest singles section, highlighting her super sexiness, and we decided we wanted to go along on this crazy trip with her! Take it away Brooke!
Before 7:00 PM came, I had the day from hell. My boss was canned the day before and my director told me that leaving early would forever be a funny joke. I even snapped at my office mate about how I don’t want to eat lunch with her and I just want to get my hair done but I don’t have time. Somehow, after all that she still said she would cover for me. All I could wrap my mind around was my photo shoot for a singles column. Am I that desperate? At 6:00 PM I leaped out the door.
I ran to my barbershop only two blocks away to see that they had already closed for the night and settled for a different one around the corner. The barber belittled me and I could tell he was laughing at me internally but I NEEDED to make sure the bald side of my head was perfect, so I sucked it up.
6:40 PM I made it to the shoot. I used a few minutes to get sexy in the bathroom, where I overdid my blush and mascara just because I like to look like a doll. I slipped my leopard dress over my sweaty self, threw some huge Africanesque earrings on and I was ready to be the ham that I know I can be!!
Finally, 7:00 PM. Showtime. The photographer, Sion Fullana was so nice. We talked shit for a little bit as he got a few initial shots in and made me feel comfortable. He told me that with a crazy hairstyle like mine I must be an artist. I laughed and felt complimented, and let him know that I am really just a nerd working in ad sales. Either way it was obvious that he dug my style, and it made me feel much more confident during the shoot… Until, he showed me the first pic. “I look fat!!!!” I exclaimed… It wasn’t his fault, but my panty line was causing a bulge. Sigh, to be a girl.
After my tantrum, we shot waist up only, and I was IN it. Totally giving face to the camera like my life depended on it. And in a way, my love life actually does depend on it. We were both excited about using my funky hairstyle to make different a persona. We tested some poses using my “mean side” and my “sweet side” and it turns out making a mean face was the most challenging. I’m always so caught up in putting my sexiest face forward. At the end of the shoot he pulled his iPhone out and started taking pics and editing them in different programs right on the spot. The techie in me wanted to ask what programs they were but the superstar in me just wanted to be adored by the camera. So I buried the techie side and just thought, “I’ll Google that shit later!” He would shoot me from two different angles and then combine them so I would have both of my personas in one single picture. Seeing myself duplicated was like heaven. Even better than candy.
Finally, as we finished we exchanged information so he could send me the iPhone shots. He let me know that everything went really well and he is pretty sure that I am going to get a ton of ladies knocking down my door. I hope so. Singledom doesn’t suck, but solo sex is getting boring. Hopefully the Feb 4th issue of Time Out New York will change everything.
