Sweet Briar College English Professor, Eleanor Salotto, MISSING

This is more of a personal and serious post. My favorite and most influential professor from college, Eleanor Salotto, has been missing since Thursday (2/11). She was last seen in Lynchburg, VA wearing a lavender baseball cap, lavender sweater with a red shirt underneath, black pants, and tennis shoes.

Eleanor Salotto was one of my Film Studies professors at Sweet Briar College who taught me to love film passionately, and I often ask myself: “what would Eleanor say here?”

If you have any information regarding Eleanor Salotto’s whereabouts, please contact the Lynchburg Emergency Communications Center at (434) 847-1602 or the Lynchburg Police Department at (434) 455-6041.

I feel the same way. I love Eleanor and even though I was a Government major, Eleanor is without a doubt one my favorite professors. The way she taught us to analyze movies has influenced the way I watch movies and even read books. I’m always thinking about how to truly analyze the value of literature or entertainment based on the skills she taught me. I am hoping and praying she returns safely!

She is such a wonderful woman. I can’t imagine what has happened or why, but I know that she will be found safely. It is so frustrating how little information there is! I have been following this since the beginning; it is truly surreal.

By the way, I just found this website via a google search for Dr. Salotto. Though my heart is heavy, I’m glad to see a fellow Vixen on such an awesome site. And Jezebel is one of my favorite places to post!

I’m still hanging on to hope that Eleanor will return safely. I’m so sad about this as she was not only my favorite professor at SBC when I was a student, but she is the reason for so many of the accomplishments that I have had since graduating in 2003. I just hope that someone out there will come forward with information about seeing her…She has to be out there somewhere and someone knows something. She is such an amazing and talented woman. Believe in the power of prayer!

Goth style is even a nice way to live the darkness around us. Don’t turn always a light on you couldn’t miss the beauty of the stars…

Eleanor and I worked together at Amtrak in Philadelphia, PA in the mid 1980s. We haven’t been in touch for a few years. She gave me a book on my birthday back then which she inscribed with beautiful and meaningful words. I’ve read it over and over during these past weeks. I’m praying for her safety and wishing I had contacted her. Thanks, Gwen, for this blog. It’s wonderful to see how much “Eleanora” (as we, her Amtrak friends called her, meant to so may people. We had so many fun times together.

I have had the distinct pleasure of working with Eleanor on her film series for the past several years. She is truly one of the kindest and dearest women I have ever worked with. I was shaken when I heard that Eleanor was missing. I am hoping and praying for some positive news.
